Manuel M. Segovia is a Mexican-American artist who came to Sacramento from Mexico City. He tells the story of how local artists encouraged him to explore other media and eventually found a creative outlet in engraving and painting industrial saw blades with his bright, bold style. Manuel explains how he started an unfinished Aztec calendar saw blade project over six years ago and how he recreated that same image onto a seven foot wooden surface in just one month. Time-lapse photography shows the creation of the seven foot diameter Aztec calendar from bare wood to completed piece. One month of work condensed into a six minute video. The DVD version of this story is available for checkout and is in the permanent archives at the Sacramento Public Library. This story is made possible by a grant from the California State Library and is a part of the Digital Story Station project. Produced & Directed by: Karl Alexander & Jeremiah Mayhew |
